So you know now, this isn’t a list of the greatest songs of all time, as if anyone has the copyright on a definitive list. This is my list of songs that I can put on repeat and play over and over and over, 20 times in a row, and it would never get old. Probably not even the most popular song from an artist, but each has this internal singularity that sub-consciously resonates within the first few notes. Don’t be a music snob, because you know there are songs that you feel the exact same way about. Please share any?
Honorable Mention:
In My Life – The Beatles
Ramble On – Led Zeppelin
Waltz #2 – Elliot Smith
Visions of Johanna – Bob Dylan
Wonderwall – Oasis
I Hope I Don’t Fall in Love With You – Tom Waits
10. Closer to Fine – Indigo Girls
Are there any two people that harmonize better than Amy and Emily?
9. Rosetta Stoned – Tool
These guys are perfect. Brilliant. I met all of them backstage, except Maynard, which is a long story.
8. No Woman, No Cry – Bob Marley and the Wailers
I didn’t pick this song for his dreads, but because it really is a spiritual song that everyone should listen to when they’re feeling down.
7. Paranoid Android – Radiohead
6. More Than a Feeling – Boston
5. Hallelujah – Jeff Buckley
Not originally written by Jeff (Leonard Cohen), but it probably is in most top music lists of all time.
4. November Rain – Guns N’ Roses
I am a sucker for hair bands, and how do you not love this video?
3. I See Monsters – Ryan Adams
Ryan Adams is an odd bird, and a genius.
2. The Boxer – Simon & Garfunkel
I met Paul Simon backstage after a show, another long story.
1. Lover, You Should’ve Come Over – Jeff Buckley
This is it. Controversial? Perhaps, but I literally have listened to this song at least 20 times in a row.
Alright, who’s gonna share some of their songs?
Cheers.
Good list. However, I would have to add one song … my favorite song of all time.
