1. We are moved in and pretty much unpacked. I’ve been sick, that’s fun.
We are making our lives more simple. Took away extracurricular consumption the last 2 1/2 months, and now we have an apartment that is half as small as the loft we had before. We can afford the big loft and all the consumption, but we are trying to reconnect our lives. To find a pulse and a rhythm that has some notes of sacrifice by choice. This is the opposite of the American Dream. More money. Bigger place. Better cars. More clothes. Nicer restaurants. Expand the 401k.
Truth be told it has not been easy, but it is getting easier with time. A healthy detox. You think I’m making more of a deal out of this than it is? This isn’t hyperbole; I now realize how much I was/am a slave to consumerism. No joke.
2. And tonight Liz and I tried to stomach 15 minutes of TBN. Total BS. I had to say it, because that’s what it is. Look up that word in the dictionary and somewhere in there has got to be something about TBN raising money and trying to get suckers to pledge. Mostly retired people on fixed incomes who can’t afford it. Parsley, Purkey, and all these other hucksters. Pledge drives go for hours each day with heresies, false prophecies, and verses quoted so out of context that Gumby couldn’t twist a meaning like they do.
If only I could hire a “life coach” like Paula White to learn to spiritual intricacies of divorce and making millions.
3. Obama. Any thoughts on Reverend Wright? Heard the sound bites? Have you heard any of the context around those sermons? LOL, I didn’t think so. Heard any of his more mild sermons from 20+ years to serve the poor? (BTW He doesn’t just preach about serving the poor) Context makes a difference. His racism exists, but lets put something in our pipe and smoke on it for a bit. Has your pastor ever made comments you were ashamed of? Any pastors who spent most of the 90’s making the gay community their personal punching bag? Or is TBN morally acceptable because the sin of greed is expected in American Evangelicalism, but hate among black Christians is not?
Martin Luther: blatant anti-Semite, and a major father to protestantism.
Reverend Wright.
Baby out with the bath water? What’s the difference between the two? Is there a double standard? Why or why not?
Cheers.

Sorry to hear that you’re sick…but at least the move is completed!
Jason did a fine job tonight on AI! I liked it even though Simon didn’t!
