For myself. It helps me to process things and clarify thoughts.
For other people. It might help someone in some way.
For fun. Writing and being read by a few people around the world in enjoyable to me.
blogging has taken the place of journaling in my life. It records life, and also provides a place to work through thoughts about life and politics and theology. I am one who has to write to organize my thoughts and feelings, I don’t feel as though I’ve worked through them without writing.
I’ve now added a reason, but this wasn’t why I started blogging. It’s just a surprise bonus. Turns out there’s a cool element of community there of new friendships with like-minded people. I find that this is a tool to influence and speak into the lives of others.
…I am finding that I blog to straighten my own thoughts.
…also to submit those thoughts to a community so that they can grow and undergo criticism and find life outside myself
…and also to simply connect and interact with others with thoughts that are being engaged by a community.
In this last point I blog to be a contributor to that discussion. I felt disconnected and greedy simply reading the thoughts on other folks’ blogs.
…and honestly, i think there is some exhibitionist tendencies in it as well.
Wow, great question! I’m an external processor, so blogging helps. And like Glenn, I hope that it might help someone else in some way. But the most fun is the comments. It’s cool to hear what others think about the things that I am thinking about. I’ve learned a great deal since I started blogging! And I like the journal function – it’s interesting for me to go back and read from the beginning (I do that maybe once a year, and it helps me purvey the journey, and see what I’ve learned or how I’ve changed).
I started blogging to help me be more disciplined about writing. I try to post every Mon thru Fri and it has helped me just sit down and do some writing every day. You know what they say about being a writer; you have to write.
I also love to hear what other people think about the things swirling around in my head.
Entertain myself…that’s all.
I started so that I could subtly acclimate friends and family to a shift in my world-view, but will continue to always blog because I enjoy the interaction, and it forces me to stay tuned into to what is going on in the world.
because I think my opinion matters…
The money.
I blog so the world can benefit from my awesome wisdom. :D
Seriously, I use it as a kind of journal. I hope that the things I have learned can be of some benefit to others who are going through some of the same things. I also enjoy being part of a community that shares and values the opinions of others. What I read helps me and writing helps crystalize my thoughts.
A couple of women strong-armed me into doing it.
Because I have a lot to say. About a lot of stuff.
And also so my sisters who don’t live in Colorado will get jealous and move back.
Because I want to be famous.
Actually, I’m with Kacie and Julie.
I don’t keep a pen and paper journal anymore (though I keep meaning to start again). So my blog takes the place of my journal. Plus, I need to write. And the discipline of blogging regularly helps me articulate my thoughts in prose and poetry. I really enjoy it.
Great question, brother.
Cheers.
I tell people that as a pastor I can’t imagine not blogging, as it is a great avenue for sharing life’s journey with members of our congregation. Then again, the truth be told, it may just be that I love seeing my own words on the screen.
IDK! Pshh, great, now I dunno if I can keep going.
It’s an online connection for me with our family and friends.
i wrote a post a while back about this. i think i do it to help me gather my thoughts, to be a part of the conversation all over the blogosphere, and to meet people with similar interests.
I blog, therefore I am.
The perception that someone’s listening.
